Colorado Gaming Regulators Holding Special Meeting April 2

The Colorado Limited Gaming Control Commission will be holding a special meeting on Thursday, April 2 to discuss more than two dozen license applications relating to sports betting services in the state.

The Commission’s offices are closed until at least April 18 because of the coronavirus, so the meeting will be held via video conference. It will chiefly focus on discussion around a number of sports betting and vendor license applications.

The meeting comes less than a month before sports betting in Colorado becomes legal on May 1. Voters narrowly passed Proposition DD in November, which is bringing online and in-person sportsbooks to the state for the first time. Gambling has been legal in Colorado since 1991, when voters approved an amendment to the state’s constitution allowing it.

What The Meeting Is About?

The meeting will begin with a short review of confidential reports from the Division of Gaming. After that, the public session will reconvene and the commission will consider the sports betting licensing actions.

After discussing all of the potential applicants and their various licensing requests, the meeting will allow the public to address the commission with any questions or issues.

Who Is Up For Licensing?

The commission will address a number of licensing applications.

Multiple casinos in Colorado’s gambling centers are seeking first master licensing, which allows “casinos to open physical sportsbooks onsite and to contract with companies to operate digital sportsbooks via web-based or mobile apps.” Several others have filed first minor vendor licensing applications, which “enable the companies to provide ancillary services such as marketing, operational solutions and technology for sports betting operators.”
