Johnny Nolon’s Saloon & Gambling Emporium History

Perhaps one of the most historic casinos in Cripple Creek, Johnny Nolon’s Saloon & Gambling Emporium, was also one of the first to open when gambling became legal in 1991. The owner, Robert Konczak, ran the popular spot until 1997 when he leased it to David Minter, then president of the Jilly Billy Bones Casino Company. Minter still owns Johnny Nolon’s and serves as general manager of the casino. Although, it now appears to be held under Minter Holdings, LLC, along with the Colorado Grande Casino, which Minter purchased in 2012.

Johnny Nolon’s is located in a beautiful historic building with elaborate scrollwork on the sides and a mural depicting part of the town’s past. It’s a small casino, but it’s popular with local players who love to play slots. The tasty food at their full-service restaurant doesn’t hurt either. You can dine-in at Johnny’s Restaurant from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. most days and order food 24 hours a day.

While Johnny Nolon’s doesn’t have a hotel within the walls of the casino, they have booking available for the Lucky 7 Hotel at the nearby Colorado Grande Casino. The two casinos also have a shuttle service between them so guests can easily get back and forth. Of course, guests are also welcome to gamble at the Colorado Grande, which does have table games, including blackjack, poker, and roulette.

The Loyalty Program

Many casinos have loyalty programs that reward visitors for wagering at their establishments. Johnny Nolon’s is no different. Their Players Club may not have as many freebies as some other casinos, but they do offer plenty of benefits for regulars.

Make sure to sign up for the Johnny Nolon’s Players Card at the casino’s main floor. This handy card will help you earn points to use towards comps, discounts, and other rewards. For instance, you can use comps to get meals from Johnny’s Restaurant for just $2.

When players use their card at the slots, they are also eligible to get random entries for the casino’s drawings. The Hot Seat Drawing is held regularly every Wednesday and Saturday at specific times. Players can win $100 just for playing with their club card.

On a side note, Johnny Nolon’s Saloon & Gambling Emporium runs a number of promotional drawings along with the Colorado Grande Casino. There are a plethora of holiday drawings, such as the Easter Drawing and Mother’s Day Drawing, both have $1,000 jackpots.
