Monarch Casino History

The Monarch Casino Black Hawk was originally opened as the Riviera Casino, on February 4, 2000.

The casino and neighboring land was purchased in 2012 by Monarch Casino & Resort, INC for $76 million and rebranded to match the owner and operator name.

In 2015, Monarch Casino & Resort, INC announced their plans to upgrade the casino to a complete resort complex, consisting of $285-$295 million worth of improvements. The upgrades included expanding the casino itself, adding a hotel tower and constructing three new restaurants. Construction is due to be completed halfway through 2020.

Once fully functional, the 23-story hotel tower will provide 500 guest rooms and suites to casino goers.

The casino currently includes 740 slot machines and 14 table games, a stage bar, a giant video wall, and live entertainment.

The Monarch Casino Black Hawk buffet is a popular attraction featuring Asian, American, Southwest and a variety of seafood cuisine. Whole Maine lobster, snow crab and USDA prime rib are served nightly alongside other favorites.

Loyalty Program

The Monarch Casino Black Hawk utilizes the Monarch Rewards program, which is shared with the company’s Atlantis casino in Nevada.

Points acquired from playing at either casino are combined by the program, counting toward benefits including free play and exclusive event invitations.

“Comp” dollars can be used to contribute towards dining experiences, hotel stays, and days of relaxation.

Like other casino loyalty programs, Monarch Rewards also uses a tier system. The program has 5 tiers, plus an exclusive invitation-only tier: Black Diamond.

Each tier requires a certain number of points for eligibility, based on levels of casino play. The higher the tier, the wider the benefits.

To join the Monarch Rewards program, simply fill out the application form and submit it by email, or via paper copy on your next casino visit.
